Compost bins for just £9 for one day only

People in and around Haxby are being offered the chance to get composting at bargain-basement prices.

The York "Rotters" are holding a one day sale on Saturday October 1 at Haxby Memorial Hall between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

The York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership, which comprises North Yorkshire County Council, the seven district councils in North Yorkshire and City of York council, are subsidising the 330 litre compost bins, so they are available to residents for one day only at just £9 each.

Composting food and garden waste is an easy way to reduce the amount of waste produced. Fruit and vegetable peelings, paper and card, egg shells, grass and vegetarian pet bedding are just some of the items that can help produce nutrient rich compost at home.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Chairman of the York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership commented: "By composting at home, residents can reduce the contents of their waste bin by 30%, and produce compost perfect for the garden."

The offer is open to residents of York and North Yorkshire. A maximum of two subsidised units per household will be allowed and residents need to take along proof of address.
