Flip and Win

Pancake day this year takes place on Tuesday 16th February and this year Stray FM and Minster FM are teaming up to give residents in York and North Yorkshire the opportunity to win cookery equipment from Lakeland by sending in recipe suggestions for pancake fillings.
Fillings suggestions can be for either sweet or savoury pancakes. To send in your suggestions click on the link for either Stray FM or Minster FM and email them your suggestions.
Get involved in the Green Santa Schools Challenge

Green Santa will tour York and North Yorkshire's schools during January 2010 as part of the Choose2Reuse Campaign. He will encourage school children, parents and teachers to reuse items instead of sending them to landfill in the Green Santa Schools Challenge.
Schools across York and North Yorkshire will be competing head to head to reuse as many reusable items as they can by donating to charity shops and reuse organisations participating in the challenge.
By donating toys, books, music, clothes, furniture and other household items children, parents and teachers will collect challenge tokens from participating Charity Shops and Reuse Organisations. The schools with the most tokens will win the challenge. The Choose2Reuse Green Santa Schools Challenge will commence on 18 January, 2010 and run until the 26 February, 2010. Leftover Recipe Competition Winner Announced
Mrs Carter from Ripon sent in the winning idea to use up leftovers, and received vouchers for cooking equipment and, along with North Yorkshire district winners, received a goody bag of kitchen items to help keep food fresher for longer – banana, onion and potato bags, fruit and vegetable savers, a spaghetti measurer and magnetic spoons.
County Councillor Clare Wood, chair of the York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership said: “We were impressed by the fact that a lot of people are using a little bit of planning and common sense to make the food they buy go a lot further. The recipes are inspirational, but people also sent in a whole host of other tips including ideas for food storage and reusing the basics for things like soup stocks as they cooked during the week."
To try out some of the recipes that were received, click here to visit the love food hate waste page to read some of the suggestions.
